I have always been a windows guy but have recently started testing the Linux waters. Its nice to see what is most popular, it gives me a good starting point.

The new Ubuntu 8.10 is actually quite helpful once setup properly and it provide a solid base for starters as my self.

Centos definitely works just fine for my server I will personally will recommend it to other users. Simply the best
